About the Marina History.

Tradition. Marinas are rarely noteworthy, but Enrique Lima's marina on Isla Mujeres is truly one exception. The dock was founded in the 1960`s. It became the first marina in the Isla Mujeres/Cozumel area. Cancun wasn`t even a blip on a map. Having dockage and fuel on Isla Mujeres gave access to the rich Atlantic Sailfish fishery off its coast. The dock and the island quickly became recognized as a prime sport fishing location. Enrique Lima and the Lima family also became recognized as excellent hosts to the visiting boats, and true conservationists to protect the outstanding resources that the surrounding waters have to offer, beggining the legend of one of the top billfishing Meccas in the world. Today, the surroundings have changed a bit, but the Lima dock has held onto its history, always keeping an eye out for their guests and helping any way they can. The marina also has a rich history involving sailing regattas. Since 1964, the Lima family hosts two regattas: the Regatta Sol del Sol, from St. Petersburg , Florida to Isla Mujeres, and the Regatta al Sol, from New Orleans and Pensacola, Florida, to Isla Mujeres. These week-long regattas attract sailboats of all sizes, and is highly regarded as one of the most festive events on the island, not only for the 500 nautical mile competition, but also for the week long post regatta parties.
